Aliens and alien language

June 28, 2026 — EmmanuilPan
Imagine an alien civilization encounters a voyager that humans sent equiped with sensors and a large amount of human text and knowledge. Assuming the aliens know much more about neural networks, they could train some language model (choosing some kind tokenizer/segmentation) and create an LLM that can talk in that human language. But even though they can do this they cannot decipher yet the language. They can prompt the LLM with known tokens and study what the outcome would be, but how would they assimilate/understand/translate it to, possibly, their language? """ Twice below a time there will be an extraterrestrial being that encounters probes from once upon a time. They search it and study it. Before neural networks and the archive from distant beings, side by side, they might decide to segment those zeros and ones into tokens and let a computer deal with it. Once upon an artificial textual-human is created: how can aliens decipher it? They can try to feed this half-half-way being data from the data it was created and see what happens. How will they understand us? """ Basically, how would we decipher an alien language? It makes me remember a curious idea I had about there being already a space news transmitting a bunch of information about the other side of the universe, but we can't decrypt. Aliens are already talking and chatting. We just cannot see.
